Because I can.

[Last Update: August 11th, 2017]

Introduction

I first picked up a marker and began trying to tell stories at but a year old. Frustrated that my young mind could not yet grasp the concept of writing adequately enough for my purpose, I began teaching myself to draw.

Now I’m attempting to rebuild my portfolio after several devastating losses.

[Drawings]

My first and favorite set of media.

§ Fantasy Drawings

Definitely my favorite genre to work in. Wish I had more time for it.

• Drawings from “The Sovereignty Cycle” (ca. 2000 C.E. ~ present)

These are illustrations I drew for a series of novels I was writing from 2000 C.E. to 2013 C.E. (which I plan to finish now that I’ve got the files off of the crashed hard-drive I had the documents stored on). For more information, see Fiction & Worldbuilding: The Sovereignty Cycle.

Inspirations included The Epic of Gilgamesh, Homer’s Illiad & Odyssey, Beowulf, the Poetic Edda, Snorri Sturluson’s Prose Edda, Jacobus da Varagine’s Golden Legend, Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Eric Rücker Eddison’s The Worm Ouroboros.

• Drawings from “The Xenozoicon” (ca. 1998 ~ 2002 C.E.)

These are illustrations.

I.

• Drawings from “The Antediluvian Epoch” (ca. 1996 ~ 1997 C.E.)

Did these back when I was about 13 and 14 years old. I think they turned out pretty good for being done with a children’s 36 piece color marker set. This series marks the time when I was finally forced to come to terms with the limitations of the comfortable old medium of my childhood.

I was still a Christian and a Young-Earth Creationist at the time I worked on this project, so this fictional universe might be an example of the fantasy subgenre known as “magic realism”.

§ Cartoon Drawings

Ah, cartooning. My first love.

• Drawings from “The Spacebunnies” (ca. 2001 ~ 2013 C.E.)

A team of superheroines who travel the universe fighting space evil.

Inspirations included Lost in Space, the original Star Trek, Space Ghost and The Herculoids, Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal 2000, Airplane II: The Sequel, Howard the Duck, Spaceballs, Amazon Women on the Moon, Felix the Cat: The Movie, Earthworm Jim, The 5th Element, Starship Troopers, and Futurama.

• Drawings from “The Nocturnals” (ca. 1999 ~ 2008 C.E.)

A young team of paranormal investigators research strange phenomena in the Pacific Northwest.

Inspired by the works of Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, and H. P. Lovecraft, classic B-grade horror movies like Evil Dead II and Return of the Living Dead, more mainstream films like Poltergeist and Gremlins, children’s books like R. L. Stine’s Fear Street and Goosebumps, and television shows like Scooby Doo, Twin Peaks, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Eerie, Indiana, this paranormal fantasy took place in the small town of Oddfellows, Washington. I didn’t think of a name for the titular paranormal investigation group itself until relatively late in the creation process, and had originally titled their first adventure simply as “Oddfellows”, but ended up naming the investigation team “The Nocturnals” after a paranormal investigation group I was a part of from 2000-2002 or so, and began working on a prequel (or would it be an interquel, since the first adventure still hadn’t been completed yet?).

• Drawings from “Red the Blue Devil” (ca. 1999 ~ 2004 C.E.)

The adventures of a little blue devil named “Red” and his wacky exploits in the Underworld. He tries to help out his uncles, most of whom attempt to prank him in return, and often gets advice from The Leviathan (a different head for each day of the week).

I have no idea what was going through my head when I came up with this idea, nor have I the faintest clue as to my inspirations.

• Drawings from “Fur University” (ca. 2000 ~ 2001 C.E.)

Drawings I did for a webcomic I was planning but never got off the ground. Friends of mine had suggested I try my hand at furry art, and this was my brief foray into that genre.

• Drawings from “Metazoids: The Lost Kingdom” (ca. 1999 ~ 2001 C.E.)

A Doylean “Lost World” setting for an intended audience that enjoyed programs like Pokémon and Digimon. The setting is populated by creatures who resemble animals (metazoans), fungi, and plants (metaphytes), but actually represent a 4th, “lost” kingdom of living things who show evidence of genomic infiltration by extraterrestrials.

[MS] “MetaSaurs”

• Drawings from “Drugsquad” (ca. 1999 ~ 2000 C.E.)

Drawings I did for a comic I never got off the ground about four teenage superheroes who protect the world from Yahweh the Barbarian Skypixie, His girlfriend, Lou Cypher, and their evil army of angels, demons, and evangelists.

• Drawings from “Mutant Squadron” (ca. 1993 ~ 1994 C.E.)

A superhero team I created when I was 10 and worked on for about a year. There were at least three issues done in typical comic book format.

• Random Furries

Stuff I did.

• Other Random Cartoon Drawings

Mostly just doodles, some the beginnings of what were to become web graphics.

§ Other Random Drawings

Stuff I did.

• Educational Drawings

At various phases in my life I’ve aspired to be a palæo-artist, especially when I was in my teens and pre-teens. I think I was planning to use some of these for an early version of Our Family Tree back when I was still working on Genesis Panthesis.
